Children’s Weekly Programs
Spring Baby Lap-Sit Story Time (0-18 mo) - Tuesdays, April 8, 15, 22, 29 (9 & 11 am)
Celebrate spring with a storytime that’s designed for caregivers to share quality time with their baby! We’ll bounce, giggle, listen to flannel stories, sing catchy songs, and make silly actions that will bring a smile to your little one’s face. Participants are encouraged to stick around afterward for playtime and adult conversation. You might even leave with ideas for new engaging ways to introduce developmental activities at home. Spring themes will include birds, flowers, and bugs!
Spring Toddler Story Time (18 mo-3 yo) - Thursdays, April 10, 17, 24 (9 & 11 am)
Bring your toddler to the library for some spring fun! Of course, we’ll read great stories, but there will also be plenty of singing, dancing, and silly moves to keep youngsters busy. All the activities are intended to delight and emphasize early learning concepts. After storytime, you’re invited to stay for unstructured playtime filled with creative opportunities and fun toys. Spring themes will include trees, trucks, and rain!
Spring Pre-School Story Time (3-5 yo) - Fridays, April 11, 18, 25 (9 & 11 am)
Spring is a great time to introduce preschoolers to the fun of group activities such as storytime at the library! You can expect entertaining stories that nurture your child’s imagination along with fun activities that fuel their curiosity and build literacy skills. In addition to offering plenty of music and movement, this storytime always ends with an exciting, crowd-pleasing craft. Spring themes will include fairies, snails, and gardening!
From Books to Bricks (Ages 6-12) - Mondays, April 7, 14, 21, 28 (4 pm)
Bring your creative ideas and building skills to the library for this LEGO program! Each week, the library will share a favorite book that’s chosen to inspire a LEGO building challenge, then participants will have the rest of the hour to create a masterpiece. One noteworthy creation will be chosen at the end of each program to feature in the library’s glass display case for the community to admire throughout the week.

Scavenger Hunt
Explore the children’s library during the month of April by participating in a fun search for bugs! After using clues to find hidden stamps, you can turn in the completed bug-jar activity sheet to receive a small prize!
Take & Make Crafts
While we take a break from weekly programs, you can pick up a Spring craft to-go from the children’s library during the first week of April, while supplies last.
Pet Portraits (Ages 6-12) – Tuesday, April 1 (10 am & 3 pm)
Looking for something to do over spring break? Come to the library to have fun making 3-dimensional egg-carton pictures to hang on the wall. Use cardboard, paint, scissors, glue, and your imagination to depict your favorite animal in fancy attire. The library will showcase these one-of-a-kind creations in its glass display cases, so that the whole community can admire your work! We’re offering this program in the morning and afternoon to work around your spring break plans.
Kids Movie – Wednesday, April 2 (2 pm)
Join us for popcorn and a movie on the big screen in the Community Room. We will be viewing Walt Disney’s 2024 film, Moana 2. This animated adventure follows a teenager who receives an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors. She journeys to the far seas of Oceania into dangerous, long-lost waters for an experience unlike anything she’s ever faced. Rated PG and runs for 100 minutes.
Blocks over Break – Thursday, April 3 (1-3 pm)
While school’s out and we’re taking a break from weekly programs, come to the library to play with our collection of LEGO and Big Blue Blocks! We’re going to set out oodles of giant building blocks and LEGO bricks for kids to create whatever they’d like during this nonstructured play opportunity in the children’s library.
Spruce Up for Spring (Ages 6-12) - Tuesdays, April 8, 15, 22 (4-5 pm)
Can’t wait to enjoy outdoor living? Lucky for you, the library has plenty for you to do while waiting for the weather to warm up! Whether you have a huge yard or cozy balcony... attend this program to create fun new additions to your outdoor space. We’ll make unique planters, quirky bird feeders, and snazzy windchimes throughout this 3-week series.
National Park Explorers: Hawai’i Volcanoes (ages 6-12) – Thursday, April 10 (1 pm & 4 pm)
A program where science meets adventure! Join us on the second Thursday of each month to explore the natural beauty, history, wildlife, and geological wonders of America’s National Parks. Each month will highlight a different park’s unique features, and we’ll conduct a hands-on experiment designed to explore the science behind them. This month will feature Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, a fascinating place that is utterly unique! Encompassing everything from stunning beaches, tropical rainforests, and even the two largest active volcanoes in the world. This park has so much to teach us.
Paws to Read (All Ages) – Mondays, April 14 (10:30-12 pm) and April 28 (3:30-5 pm)
Bring your young reader to the children’s library to read to a real, live therapy dog. This is the perfect program for children who are working on building their reading confidence or who love sharing books with a furry friend. These dogs love to hear stories and are ready to help you become the best reader you can be!
American Girl of the Month Club: Rebecca (Ages 6-12) – Thursday, April 17 (1 pm & 4 pm)
Join us on the third Thursday of every month to celebrate the diverse culture of the United States! Each month will feature one of American Girl’s historical dolls and include fun activities that are inspired by her era and heritage. Our April program will feature Rebecca Rubin, a spunky and charismatic aspiring actress who is growing up in New York City in 1914. Rebecca and her family are Russian-Jewish Immigrants who are learning to embrace being American while still holding on to their cultural traditions.
Earth Day Family Storytime – Saturday, April 19 (10 am)
Celebrate our beautiful planet with a special story time to kick off the library’s Earth Day event. Join us outside to enjoy rhymes, songs, and stories that highlight ways we should appreciate and protect the natural world. Story time will be followed by an upcycled craft! Afterward, families can stick around for Saturday with the Symphony and the rest of the library’s fun Earth Day festivities!
Earth Day with the Symphony: A Children’s Program (3+yo) – Saturday, April 19 (11 am)
Children 3 and older can enjoy “Saturday with the Symphony” during the Library’s Earth Day event. The free music education program is coordinated by the Coeur d’Alene Symphony Orchestra and recurs the third Saturday of each month. The music-filled hour typically includes a fun musical performance, an interactive activity and a book reading by the children’s librarian. Past musical performances have included traditional classical music, jazz, pop and world music. Come for a lively morning of musical enrichment.
A-Tisket, A-Tasket... Make a May Basket! (ages 6-12) - Tuesday, April 29 (1 & 4 pm)
Create a thoughtful May Day surprise for someone dear to you by making little baskets filled with flowers, cookies, and a special card. They’re sure to bring a smile to the lucky recipient’s face when you sneak it onto their doorknob on May first!
StoryWalk® in the Parks
Stroll through McEuen Park this spring while reading “Finding Spring” by Carin Berger. Each page of the book is posted alongside a path that stretches from the library to the playground. The Library’s Higgens Point State Park StoryWalk® will feature “Little Bunny, Spring is Here!” By Deborah Marcero.

Adult/All Ages Weekly/Biweekly Programs
Yoga for You! (Ages 18+) - Mondays and Fridays (9:30 am)
Join us for this Yoga program for adults. This blend of stretching, strengthening and balance work, along with relaxation, may be just what you’re looking for. Come enjoy the many benefits of this ancient practice! Your instructor, Gerry Bryak, will adapt poses to your needs so this yoga is truly for YOU! All levels are welcome, from beginners to experienced. Please bring a mat to class.
Tai Chi & Qi Gong (Ages 18+) - Mind Body Movement- Tuesdays (10 am)
Improve strength, balance, coordination, focus, breathwork and relaxation, all while exploring different movements from Tai Chi and Qi Gong styles. All movements can be done within your own comfort zone and mobility level. No special equipment or clothing needed, wear what is comfortable for you. Avoid wearing flip flops or slides. Chairs will be available for those that need to sit or use for extra balance. This program is for anyone at any age and any ability level. Your instructor Christine brings over 25 years of experience in teaching and sharing Tai Chi and Qi Gong. Find us in the Community Room.
Stronger in Body & Mind (Ages 16+) – Wednesdays April 9, 16, & 30 (9:30 am)
Low-impact fitness & strength training class for all levels of strength. Feel stronger, fitter, refreshed and more focused! Jeannette, a trainer with over a decade of experience, will guide you to work at your own personal level, with modifications as needed. Whole body workout, using dumbbells, body weights, and simple resistance training. We’ll add a bit of cardio, flexibility and finish with a guided mindfulness practice. Sit-n-Stitch (Ages 12+) - Wednesday April 30 (11 am)
We will be taking a break for most of April, but this class will return every Wednesday, starting April 30th! New to crochet and knitting? Always wanted to learn? Want to come and craft with some friendly faces? Join us every Wednesday for our crochet Sit-n-Stitch! Materials, patterns, and project help will be provided. All skill levels are welcome, feel free to bring your own handwork projects! You can find us this month in the Jameson Room.
Community Sew-In (All-Ages) – April 3, 9, 17 & 25 (12-3 pm)
Join us in our weekly sewing sessions! Are you working on a quilting project and want to connect with fellow enthusiasts? Come along and socialize, ask for advice, or whatever else you might need. Looking to step into a career that’s thriving and full of opportunity? Join us for High-Demand Careers: Your Guide to Landing the Right Job, a dynamic presentation from Equus Workforce Solutions. Explore the industries that are hiring, uncover the skills employers value most, and learn about resources designed to help you secure your dream job. Whether you’re starting fresh, shifting gears, or enhancing your current expertise, this event will provide you with the tools and insights needed to succeed in today’s competitive job market. Lawyer in the Library (Ages 18+) - Thursday, April 3 and May 1 (4-6 pm)
The Library is partnering with the Idaho Volunteer Lawyers Program (IVLP) to provide resources for low-income individuals and families in Idaho who require civil legal services and cannot afford to pay for them. Although they are unable to assist with criminal issues or fee generating cases, these free legal clinics are an opportunity to receive advice and counseling from local attorneys who volunteer their time and expertise. Registration is required and must be done at least 24 hours before the clinic, every first Thursday of the month in the Gozzer Room.
History Hour Lecture (All Ages)
In this monthly lecture series, join us in the Community Room at the Library for a special presentation with the Museum of North Idaho, featuring a local author or historian who will talk about Idaho’s fascinating heritage. Find us in the Community Room.
Idaho Fire Lookouts – Wednesday, April 9 (5:30 pm)-Cat House and Billy Cooter are preservation focused adventurers with a passion for Idaho fire lookout structures and legacy of the men and women who worked at the lookouts. They share an interest in the history of the American West, photography, hiking and road trips, but most importantly, the Idaho fire lookout system and culture. Cat House and Billy Cooter will share stories and information about protecting, visiting, and sustainably enjoying these unique Idaho sites.
Novel Destinations - Thursday, April 10 (7 pm)
This photographic presentation will discuss a trip through the Pantanal of Brazil. The Pantanal is a natural region encompassing the world's largest tropical wetland area, and the world's largest flooded grasslands.
The areas visited were near Aquidauana and Fazenda Barranco Alto in the South Pantanal; and Porto Jofre in northern Pantanal. Photographs of popular fauna such as Jaguars, Ocelots, Giant Anteaters, Giant River Otters, Macaws, Owls, Rheas, Herons, Caimans and many more will be presented.
Improv Playground (Ages 15+)- Thursdays, April 10 & 24 (5:15 pm)
Want to dip your toes into improv without having to commit to a full-length class? Take a break from the busyness of life and come make up funny stuff with us! This is a FREE-to-attend open improv hangout for people of all (or no) improv experience levels and is designed to be a space for people to take a step from their everyday lives, exercise their creativity, and spend an hour and a half experiencing something new, magical, probably weird, and super FUN! Join us in the Gozzer Room on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month starting in January.
Divine Voice: A Conversation with Li-Young Lee – Friday, April 11 (11 am)
Join us in welcoming critically acclaimed poet Li-Young Lee to Coeur d’Alene for a conversation around the themes of faith and spirituality in his work, moderated by Dr. Erin Davis, Professor of English at North Idaho College, and Jennifer Passaro, Poet Laureate of Coeur d’Alene. This special event is a stop on Eastern Washington University’s Get Lit! Festival 2025, an annual literary festival which includes full days of readings, writing workshops, craft classes, panel discussions, literary happy hours, virtual events, a book fair, and more. Meditation for a Peaceful Mind: Letting Go of Perfect (Ages 16+) – Saturday, April 12 (10:30 am)
Join us for an enlightening experience. Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or a curious beginner, this class will guide you through the principles and practices of meditation in a calm and supportive environment. Our instructor will lead you through various techniques aimed at reducing stress, enhancing mindfulness, improving focus, and promoting overall well-being. This month, find us in the Gozzer Room.
Beginning Birding: Presented by Cd’A Audubon Society (Ages 16+) – Saturdays April 12, 19, & 26 (10:30-1:30 pm)
Birding is one of the fastest growing recreational activities in the world. Come and join us in the Nelson Room and learn what the attraction is all about.
This six-hour course, presented by Ted Smith of the Cd’A Audubon Society over 3 consecutive Saturdays, will introduce participants to recreational birding or bird watching. The course will cover how to identify bird groups and individual species, tools and resources to support bird identification, and how to become involved in birding. Space is limited and registration is required. An optional field trip will be scheduled during the class.
Ukulele Club (All Ages) - 2nd Saturday, April 12 (3-4:30 pm)
Want to play ukulele with others? Join local ukulele enthusiast, Brittany Clapp-Abdella, for a monthly community Ukulele Club. Learn to play the ukulele or just join the ukulele jam session. Learn basic skills, such as tuning your strings, chord positions, strumming patterns, etc, as well as songs to reinforce your learning. Find us in the Nelson Room. Paul Revere’s Ride and the First Day of the American Revolution (All Ages) - Saturday, April 12 (11-1 pm)
The 19th of April 1775 was a day that forever changed the course of our Nation. Why is this such an important day and who was involved in the birth of our Nation? Join us in the Community Room to learn the true story of Paul Revere, the "Shot Heard Around the World", the Battles of Lexington and Concord, and the sacrifices made to gain our independence. This all ages “Libertyseed” program will be presented by Brad Foster, a local veteran and an instructor for Project Appleseed, a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to promoting civic responsibility through the teaching of colonial history and the American tradition of Liberty through a variety of programs in a safe, non-partisan environment. Medicare Workshops (Ages 18+)
SHIBA is presenting a series of senior health workshops at the Library. Join us for any of the series. Senior Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA) serves Idahoans on Medicare and those who help them by offering free, unbiased Medicare benefits information and assistance through workshops, group presentations and personal counseling. The program is partially funded by and operated under the authority of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Community Living (ACL).

Dungeons & Dragons Guild (Ages 13+)- Friday, April 18 (4-7 pm)
Adventurers from all walks of life may participate in one-shot dungeon campaigns for treasure, glory, and fellowship in the Community Room every third Friday of the month from 4pm to 7pm. Campaigns will be based on a simplified version of 2014 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons rules so that anyone can participate. Campaigns hold 3 to 4 players and will be one-shot gaming sessions that finish within 2-3 hours. No follow-up by participants is required. Pre-made character sheets are available, but adventurers may bring their own homemade characters (3rd level only please).
Spring 2025 Walking Adventures (Ages 13+)
Come learn about the natural wonders and history that are right in your backyard! This series of walks will take us around Tubbs Hill and the surrounding area as we explore the flora, fauna, geology, and history of the local area. Each walk will be led by a local community member eager to share their passion and knowledge. It is recommended that you park in the lower parking lot. Please dress for the weather, wear appropriate shoes for a moderate hike, bring water, and please no dogs.
Earth Day Morning Bird Walk (Ages 13+)- Saturday, April 19 (8:30 am & 9 am) - Celebrate Earth Day with a morning walk on Tubbs Hill and enjoy the sights and sounds of birds. The Coeur d’Alene Audubon Society will conduct a guided birding tour of the east side of Tubbs Hill. We will lead two groups, one at 8:30 and one at 9, starting at the bird sign at the east trailhead on the south- east side of Tubbs Hill (11th Street). The tour will last approximately an hour and a half. Binoculars are recommended and please no pets or children under the age of seven.
Springtime on Tubbs Hill with Jack Nisbet (Ages 13+)– Wednesday, April 30 (9 am) - Please welcome Spokane-based author Jack Nisbet as he leads us for a turn around the trails of Tubbs Hill. This hike will focus on wildflowers, shrubs, and trees that were present around the time of the first tribal contact with fur traders. We will also talk about how the forest has evolved since the Ice Age Floods and how it might look to future generations of walkers. We will meet at the lower entrance of the Library (outside the Community Room) by the moose statue at 9 AM and walk to the trailhead together.
Earth Day Celebration (All-Ages) – Saturday, April 19 (10-2 pm)
The Coeur d’Alene Public Library invites you to join us on Saturday, April 19th, from 10 am to 2 pm for our annual Earth Day celebration! This year's theme, "Our Power, Our Planet," emphasizes the global commitment to renewable energy sources like solar, wind, geothermal, hydro, and tidal energy, with the goal of tripling the world's renewable energy generation by 2030.
Enjoy a day filled with entertainment, educational booths, and craft activities. Discover a mix of city, county, state, and regional organizations and non-profits dedicated to protecting our streams, lakes, and rivers, preserving fragile ecosystems, and raising awareness about environmental conservation.

Pageturners Book Club (Ages 18+) - Wednesday, April 23 (10:15 am)
The Pageturners Book Club is discussing “Demon Copperhead” by Barbara Kingsolver
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, this is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father's good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. In a plot that never pauses for breath, relayed in his own unsparing voice, he braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Journaling Gratitude (Ages 16+) – Saturday, April 26 (10:30 am)
Cultivate a sense of calm and find clarity in your daily life. Journaling helps us to process adversity, improve our health, and build our resilience. You can expect expressive writing and mindfulness activities moving you toward authentic living. Bring your journal and find us in the Jameson Room this month.
Spring into Poetry (Ages 14+) - Saturday, April 26 (2-4 pm)
In celebration of National Poetry Month, please join Coeur d’Alene Poet Laureate Jennifer Passaro for a generative writing workshop outdoors in the park behind the Coeur d’Alene Public Library. We will be embracing the natural world as a catalyst of writing, being, and mindful practice. Scott Gittens, yoga therapist and certified international yoga teacher, will lead workshop participants in a 20-minute welcoming yoga flow. Gain a sense of empowerment in your ability to step into the world of poetry; move your body and your pen in a fun, inclusive environment! This workshop is for all levels and abilities, please wear comfortable clothing and layers, we will meet in the Community Room and then venture outside! Bring a yoga mat, water, and something to write on. Registration is encouraged!
Pokémon GO Community Day (All Ages) - Sunday, April 27 (2-5 pm)
Join us for a Pokémon GO's Community Day on April 27th! We’ll meet in the Community room then we’ll explore McEuen Park and downtown Coeur d’Alene as a group from 3-5 pm.
Check-in at the time of the event on the Campfire app to receive free timed research themed to the event, and a point towards your Community Member badge. If you need assistance checking in, a staff member or community ambassador will be happy to assist you. Also, remember to respect other pedestrians and be aware of your surroundings while walking.
A group photo will be taken while we’re in the Community Room. Participation is encouraged, but optional. The photo may be uploaded to social media.
Science of the Heart (Ages 18+) – Saturdays May 3 & 17 (10-11:30 am)
Join us for this special opportunity to learn about the interaction between your heart and brain and how your heart influences not only your health but also your intuition, emotions, perceptions, and performance. This class will explore the physiological state of heart rate variability and how to achieve it reliably. This state has been shown in peer-reviewed, double-blind studies to positively affect high blood pressure, anxiety, stress, and inflammation. The first class will cover the physiological effects of the practice of heart coherence and the second will cover the mental and psychological effects. Both classes will incorporate information with practice and discussion. Handouts will be provided, and participants will be encouraged to practice between classes to build proficiency and experience. Learn how to improve both your physical and psychological wellbeing; accessing your heart’s true intelligence and intuition. Registration is required. Find us upstairs in the Nelson Room.
Friends of the Library Meeting – Fourth Tuesday of the month (10:30 am)
The Friends of the Coeur d’Alene Public Library raise funds to support library programs for children and adults, and to purchase special items for the the collection, furnishings, and equipment. This monthly meeting is open to anyone interested in supporting the library.

The Coeur d’Alene Library Board of Trustees meets typically on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 4 pm. The public may join in the library’s Community Room.
